Gas Price Increasing from New Years Day
December 31st, 2009
After the recent electricity, transport and postage price rises, from tomorrow the price of a gas cylinder in Spain will increase by 3.4% to 11,05 euros, compared with 10,69 euros today.
A 12.5 kg cylinder will therefore increase by 36 cents, which will affect between eight and 10 million users in Spain.
According to the resolution of the General Directorate for Energy Policy, the maximum price of sale before tax of liquefied petroleum gas packaged in containers of capacity not exceeding eight kilograms and less than 20 kilograms will be 76.2713 cents per kilogram.
This increase reflects the increase in international prices of propane and butane (21.6% up compared to prices in October 2009) and increased freight costs (6.5% up compared to October).
Despite the rise, the price of butane in Spain is still much lower than in neighboring European countries such as Portugal, France, United Kingdom and Belgium.
