Buy “Espana” For Half a Million Euros
March 4th, 2010
Sedo.com, a website that facilitates the buying and selling of internet domain names through online auctions, has added a new web site for sale today, with no content, and which starts with a reserve price of between 250,000 and 500,000 euros … from 3pm today, until the same time next Thursday, bids can be made for www.espana.com.
According to the organisers of the auction, the domain name will achieve a very high final price, as has happened with domains that are the names of other countries. Last November, the domain russia.com sold for 1.5 million euros, while korea.com was acquired in 2000 for 5 million euros and is the most expensive domain ever bought.
Sedo.com director for Spain and Latin America, Iván Díaz, explained that these types of domain names “have great potential, being ideal for various tourism services or information about a city, region or country, with all the search engine benefits and traffic that the name itself leads to.”
Besides espana.com, the auction site is offering another 150 domains this week, some of them also related to the tourism sector in Spain, such as mallorca.org, hostal.net and hotelrural.net but none having anywhere near the appeal of the .com for Espana!
