Spanish Church Campaign Against Abortion Laws

March 9th, 2010

Abortion CampaignThe Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE) has launched an anti abortion campaign at a press conference that took place in the Casa de la Iglesia de Madrid.

The media campaign will be centered around “the right of life to be born” and is being launched under the motto: “It’s my life … It’s in your hands”

The campaign is being run from the 15th to the 30th of March, and will include the specific celebrations for the Day for Life, to be held on March 25th. It will place adverts showing a newly born child held between two hands on 1,300 billboards spread across 37 Spanish cities.

Additionally, campaigners have already begun distributing a total of six million informational leaflets, and posters have been sent to 30,000 parishes and Catholic schools across the country.

The campaign is also backed up by a website that can be found at conferenciaepiscopal.es/apoyoalavida, where information can be found on numerous institutions that “can help mothers and fathers” in cases of unexpected or unwanted pregnancies.

The campaign is in response to new laws that aim to make abortion more freely available, with bishops involved in the CEE campaign stating that “the new abortion law is a serious setback to the legal protection of the lives of those who have yet to be born, a further exodus of pregnant women”.

This campaign joins similar action that was carried out last year on the Day for Life; that campaign was advanced under the slogan ‘Protect my life’ and was promoted with the image of a lynx and a child.
