Madrid Confirmed as Host of MTV Awards 2010

MTV AwardsIt has been confirmed that this year’s MTV Awards will be held in Madrid, at the Caja Mágica (Magic Box) on Sunday November the 7th.

The Community of Madrid, the City Council and the Government of Spain have all collaborated to bring the event to the capital of Spain, the annual show has a worldwide presence in 155 countries and will be watched in over 590 million homes.

The MTV awards have previously been held in Barcelona, and this year’s event will play host to many of the world’s most famous and successful acts. While no definite artists have been confirmed, the goal of MTV Iberia CEO, Raffaele Annecchino, is to bring as many leading artists to Madrid as possible, “Madrid is an attractive destination for many musicians. Many become more interested when you say that you can offer them a visit to Madrid, Spain,” said Annecchino.

“The city of Madrid has everything needed to be a great host of the MTV Awards.” said a confident Miguel Ángel Villanueva, a government spokesman, when confirming the news. He highlighted the excellent transport network, the quality and breadth of hotels on offer and the “people” of the city itself. The ceremony will involve a great deal of publicity, because “the image of the city will travel around the globe,” Villanueva concluded.

The ceremony in Madrid will be promoted in advertising and on many programmers broadcast on the MTV channels (MTV, Paramount, Paramount Comedy, Nickelodeon, VH1 and Spike TV) throughout the year. While the three administrations involved, the Community of Madrid, the Madrid City Council and the Government of Spain, and Turespaña will invest around one million euros in the organization of the awards show itself.
