Historic Final in Madrid Awaits FC Barcelona

April 28th, 2010

Nou CampBarcelona, currently holders of all six available club competitions last year, face their first major challenge tonight at the Nou Camp as they aim to qualify for the Champions League final. Barcelona must overcome a keen Inter Milan who hope to return to the final of the competition, for the first time in twenty-eight years.

Accustomed to epic performances away from home, Barcelona’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has the opportunity to take a historic win by overturning a 3-1 first leg deficit against Inter Milan, with a tremendous additional bonus: a Champions League final at the Bernabeu stadium, home of their arch rivals Real Madrid.

It’s a game that sees the return of Leo Messi, 4 goal hero of their last Champions League tie against Arsenal, and also for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a former Inter player. Club captain Carles Puyol is missing however, after his controversial red card against Arsenal in the quarter finals.

Inter Milan is likely to play with the same team that lost 2-0 to Barcelona in the first round of the Champions League this season at the Nou Camp, with Barcelona needing the same result tonight to set up the historic final against last night’s other semi-final winner, Bayern Munich.
