May 27th, 2010
Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid football club, has officially confirmed the acquisition of Jose Mourinho as new manager his team, and the dismissal of current boss, Manuel Pellegrini. “The Board has agreed to end the role of Pellegrini and hire Mourinho, after his contract obligations have been resolved with Inter,” said Florentino.
Perez argued that the Portuguese manager will fit perfectly into the Real Madrid setup, describing him as “the best coach in the world”, and adding, “I like his enthusiasm, his effort, his competitiveness … everything that makes him an immense manager.”
“This club has always taken pride in having the very best in all areas of the club; we believe it is the right time to hire this great manager. We want stability, but stability in winning trophies and being leaders in Europe. The style of play that Mourinho will bring has the same ideals as Real Madrid, that of winning and the spirit of sacrifice,” said the president.
The Madrid president finally emphasized the professionalism and hard work of Pellegrini, who had another year left on his contract. It is expected that his replacement, Mourinho, will be given a four-year contract, worth in the region of 10 million euros per season.
