Air Traffic in Spain Expected to Grow Substantially

June 24th, 2010

AeroplaneThe aircraft manufacturer Airbus has estimated that Spain will need 392 new aircraft over the next 20 years, which will require an investment of over 39 million euros – this is according to the group’s annual projections of Spanish airspace requirements that were presented by their vice president for consumers, Rafael Alonso, yesterday.

Alonso stressed that airlines will also need more efficient aircraft if they are to meet the needs of air traffic in Spain, which continues to grow significantly. The Madrid-Barcelona route remains the largest air corridor in Europe and Barajas airport in Madrid is one of the main centres of connection between Europe and Latin America.

Most of the new aircraft, which will be provided both by Airbus themselves and the American manufacturer Boeing, will be single-aisle types (278 seats), with 88 twin-aisle airplanes and also 26 of the so called A380 ‘super planes’, that are double decker and capable of carrying up to 853 passengers.
