Woman in Gandia Fakes Own Kidnap to Test Husband
December 28th, 2010
A Spanish woman has been arrested for faking her own kidnapping to check out whether her husband would pay for her release, police reported yesterday.
The woman sent a photo to her husband’s mobile phone in which her hands and feet were bound, together with a text message from a supposed kidnapper, saying that the woman’s release would cost the man 20,000 euros.
Later on, the man received several text messages repeating the ransom demand and warnings that he should not go to the police.
During an investigation of the case, police spotted the woman’s vehicle and followed her to a shopping centre near her home in Gandia.
“The woman, who was traveling alone and was in perfect health, was the supposed victim of the kidnapping,” said the police statement.
She told police that she was freed that morning, but admitted later that her kidnapping was a fake that she made up “to find out what her husband would be willing to do for her.” AFP
