Annual Flour Fight in Alicante Raises Money for Charity
December 30th, 2010
An annual flour fight festival, ”Els Enfarinats,” has recently taken place in the Spanish town of Ibi in Alicante.
Dozens of people took part as a spoof army dressed in full uniform and other bizarre characters engaged in a boisterous battle using flour and eggs as their weapons, and passers-by are forced to give donations in order to avoid the flour.
In the town square a mock government and opposition engage in an all out battle and passersby are again forced to give donations in order to avoid the flour. It is all for a good cause with the money collected going to charity.
The 200-year-old event takes place every year in Ibi, Alicante, on the 28th of December to coincide with the Day of the Innocents, the equivalent of April Fools’ Day.
