Alonso “Optimistic” as F1 Season Begins
March 23rd, 2011
Fernando Alonso is now counting the hours to the start of the 2011 F1 World Championship in Melbourne Park, the scene of his Formula 1 debut a decade ago.
After the unfortunate cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix, he has waited an extra two more weeks than expected and the Spanish champion cannot hide his enthusiasm. “The desire to return to running is very strong,” he noted on his personal blog, where he also commented on his car after winter testing.
“We’re not really sure where we are compared to the others,” Alonso said after the hard work put in during the long winter break. However, he is “optimistic” because after “many miles” the new F150 Ferrari has demonstrated it’s “reliability”.
“In the last test in Barcelona, we introduced a number of improvements and here in Melbourne we have brought a new version of the front wing. We’ll see if it gives the results we expect, but I think we need three or four runs to get a clear idea the situation.”
Alonso will take to the track Friday at 02:30 CET for first practice, ahead of the main events of qualifying on Saturday morning at 07:00 and the race on Sunday at 08:00.
