41.5 Million Hotel Stays in Spain During August

Further to yesterday’s news of record tourists figures in August, results show that 41.5 million overnight stays were recorded in hotels throughout Spain during the same month – a 6.2% increase compared with the same month in 2010.

Overnight stays by Spanish residents decreased 1.4%, while foreign stays increased by 12.2%. The average stay was 3.9 nights per guest, an increase of half a percent.

In the two busiest summer months of July and August, overnight stays increased 7.5% overall,


compared to 2010. And during the first eight months of the year, overnight stays increased by 7.1% over 2010.

Regarding profitability, invoicing per occupied room reached an average value of 81.8 euros (1.8 euros more than one year ago), and income per available room stood at 59.4 euros (3.5 euros more).

A total 72.3% of the available bed places were filled in August, 3.3% more than the same month the previous year. While, weekend occupancy rates increased to 75.3%, up 2.7%.
