Merkel Calls for “Rapid Reforms” in Spain

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, sent a telegram to the PP leader, Mariano Rajoy, to congratulate him on his victory in Sunday’s elections, highlighting the “clear mandate” that the Spanish have given him, to perform “rapid reforms” in these “difficult times” for Spain and Europe.
In her message, sent after the Chancellor’s telephone conversation with Rajoy on Monday, Merkel emphasised that the PP leader has received “a clear mandate in these difficult times for Spain and Europe, to quickly decide and implement the necessary reforms”.
Diario Sur reported that the Chancellor went on to wish Rajoy “success” and expressed confidence in their ability to work together to “deepen European integration and for the benefit of Europe.” Moreover, Merkel emphasised her wish to work with the future PP Government in strengthening the already “good and friendly relations” between Spain and Germany.
