37 Killed on the Roads Since the Start of Christmas

Thirty-seven people have died in thirty-six accidents registered on the roads since the 23rd December, when “Operation Christmas” started, and up until New Year’s Day, the Department General of Traffic (DGT) have informed that these incidents also resulted in a further ten serious and ten minor injuries.
Among those killed in accidents since the start of Christmas are eight people killed on the roads in “Operation New Year”. This second phase of Christmas traffic operations was launched at three in the afternoon of last Friday and ended at 24.00 hrs New Year’s Day, although in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias and Extremadura the operation ended yesterday, which was also a holiday.
Diario Sur reported that over this weekend eight people died in accidents, two other people were seriously injured and six had minor injuries.
In the first phase of Operation Christmas, which took place between Friday, 23rd December and Christmas Day on 25th, 17 people were killed in traffic accidents on Spanish roads.
The third and final phase of the special Christmas traffic operations, will run in Spain from Thursday, 5th January, the eve of Epiphany (or the Three Kings), and will end on Sunday, 8th January, 2012.
